Ring

Description

Gold signet ring owned by Thomas Stone (1743-1787), which features the family coat of arms. The reverse side has his name, inscribed: "Thomas Stone." Born into a prominent Charles County family at "Poynton Manor," he studied the law and was admitted to the bar in 1764. Stone served as a Maryland delegate to the Continental Congress and was a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Later, he served on the committee that drafted the Articles of Confederation (1777) and the Maryland State Senate (1777-1787).
