Half-length group portrait of Rosalie Eugenia Stier Calvert (Mrs. George Stuart Calvert) (1778-1821) and her daughter, Caroline Marie Calvert (Mrs. Thomas Willing Morris, 1800-1842). Mrs. Calvert is seated facing the left of the composition while her daughter sits on her lap, facing her and looking up towards her face. The woman has dark brown upswept curly hair, thick dark eyebrows, and rosy cheeks. She wears a black dress with a low, lace-trimmed neckline, high waist, and short sleeves. The young girl has short curly brown hair and wears a white dress of a similar style.
