Description

Sewing sampler with embroidered inscription of "Baltimore City - Jane E. Taylor - Aged 10 Years & 6 Months - August 15, 1804 - Remember Your Creator." Embroidered alphabet and numbers on top half. Two pine trees on either side of inscription, floral border.

Notes

Jane Etting Taylor Poor (1793-1877) was the daughter of Robert Taylor and Frances Etting. Born in Baltimore, she married John Henry Poor (1783-1856) on August 8, 1815. The couple had five children and lived on McCulloh Street at the end of her life. She is buried in Green Mount Cemetery.
