Settee

Description

Rococo Revival settee or sofa upholstered in gold velvet, ca. 1855, by John Henry Belter (1804-1863) of New York. It was part of a parlor suite known as "Rosalie & Grapes" that included an armchair and two side chairs. It was specifically made for the "Wilson" family who occupied 505 Park Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland. It is the only known example of Belter furniture made for an important Baltimore house.
