Description

Watercolor on paper drawing of "Sketch of Mr. Walk's Mill on Flat Creek, near its junction with Appomattox River", ca. 1796, from the Latrobe Sketchbooks, by Benjamin Henry Latrobe. During a trip down the Appomattox River, Latrobe and his companions stopped for the night at the home of a Mr. Walk for a meal and lodging. Their host was so hospitable that they spent the better part of the next day there. This scene features Mr. Walk's Mill, a well, and the junction where the Appomattox River meets Flat Creek.
