Tureen
Description
Silver covered tureen on an ovular pedestal, embellished with a beaded border on base and edge of lip. There are two handles in the shape of serpents and two decorative snake heads and the visage of a bearded man on either side. The lid has a serpent designed handle. This silver tureen was given to the Hon. George Washington Dobbin (1809-1891), Judge, Supreme Bench of Baltimore City (1867-1882), upon his retirement in 1882. It is one of a set of three (See 1950.108.19 a,b and 2020.38.1 a,b). Upon his death they were split up amongst three of his children, and they remained separated until being reunited in the MCHC museum collection.
