Description

In 1848 Baltimore businessman Gustav W. Lurman, Sr (1808-1866) purchased the Catonsville estate known as "Bloomsbury" and renamed it "Farmlands." He laid out extensive pleasure grounds planted with many rare specimens of trees and shrubbery, including an English flower garden, greenhouse, and grapery. "Farmlands" remained in the family until the property was purchased in 1948 from the estate of Frances Lurman by the Baltimore County board of education for the construction of Catonsville High School.
