Watercolor on paper drawing of "York River Looking Northwest up to West Point, Virginia", ca. 1796-1798, from the Latrobe Sketchbooks, by Benjamin Henry Latrobe. Benjamin emigrated from Great Britain to Virginia in March 1796. He lived and worked there until 1798 when he moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This scene features the York River, a thirty-four-mile estuary that separates the Virginia and Middle Peninsulas. The river begins at the small town of West Point, Virginia.
