Meet the newest board members at MdHS

We are pleased to announce the newest members of our Board of Trustees are William M. Gore, Robert W. Schoeberlein, and, Charles W. Mitchell. “We are very excited and welcome the addition of these three new trustees to the board of the Maryland Historical Society. They bring a combined wealth of historical knowledge as well as wide community involvement to our institution. We are all very much  looking forward to working closely with them, “ exclaimed MdHS President and CEO, Mark Letzer.

William M. Gore

William Mitchell Gore works as a part of Lord Baltimore Uniform, a business owned by his family with Baltimore roots since 1922. He takes pride in being the fifth generation to enter the family business. William received a B.A. in English and Environmental Studies from Hobart College. When he is not working to continue the family legacy at Lord Baltimore Uniform, he can be found engaging in leadership roles within the Young Defenders of the Maryland Historical Society, the St. Paul’s School Alumni Associate Board, or participating in his favorite pastime of rowing with the Baltimore Rowing Club.

Robert W. Schoeberlein

Well versed in the city of Baltimore and beyond, Robert W. Schoeberlein has worked with the Maryland State Archives since 1999 in various capacities. Mr. Schoeberlein earned his B. A. in History and Fine Arts from Georgetown University, M.A. in Publications Design from University of Baltimore, then an M.A. in Historical Studies from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. Robert later worked to obtain a Pd.D. in American Studies from the University of Maryland College Park. Throughout his career, Mr. Schoeberlein has lent his expertise to a variety of presentations, exhibitions, and publications making him an award winning writer. Although newly elected to the board of the Maryland Historical Society, Dr. Schoeberlein has been a part of the MdHS team since 1992, first serving as a Manuscripts Archivist, then Curator in the Prints and Photographs Department.

Charles W. Mitchell

Charles W. Mitchell is an award winning author of two books on American History and the Civil War. Mr. Mitchell earned his B.A. from Penn State University in both History and Political Science. He later went on to earn an M.A. in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland. Charles has an extensive career in publishing, not only serving as author, but also as an editor and mentor to many within the publishing industry. With a vast range of experience in planning, research, and communication, Mr. Mitchell’s voice has been seen and heard in local media such as the local NPR, Baltimore Sun, and Maryland Historical Magazine, as well as nationally in the New York Times Magazine, New Yorker and Wall Street Journal. Charles W. Mitchell currently serves as the Director of Alumni Relations at St. Paul’s School.
