Library Hours

The H. Furlong Baldwin Library has reopened. As of July 1, appointments are no longer necessary for Main Reading Room visits. Special Collections visits remains by appointment only. Learn more about our procedures and make an appointment via our Plan Your Visit page. ***

Please Note: The Library will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday, Thursday, November 25-Saturday, November 27.

Main Reading Room Hours

Wednesday – Saturday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Mean Reading Room Collections include reference and history books, microfilm, and genealogical resources.

Special Collections Hours

Wednesday – Friday and the second Saturday of each month, 10 a.m. — 4 p.m. (by appointment only)

Special Collections include manuscripts, photographs, rare books and pamphlets, maps, and other archival materials.

Additional Information

The Maryland Center for History and Culture is closed on the following holidays: Easter Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day.

The Imaging Services Department will be closed the week of November 22nd.

Admission

Admission is FREE for members of the Maryland Center for History and Culture, and FREE for everyone on the First Thursday and Second Saturday of the month.

Free Admission Programs

Free Admission for Visitors under 18 — december 2021

We are pleased to offer our youngest visitors free museum admission throughout the month of December 2021. There are so many of fun, engaging, and educational family-friendly activities to do while visiting us this holiday season, including scavenger hunts in the exhibitions.

Downtown discovery days — January 5-14, 2022

Downtown Discovery Days, organized by the Downtown Partnership of Baltimore, is taking place during the first two weeks of January 2022. During this promotional event, enjoy free MCHC museum admission on the following days — January 5, 6, 7, 8, & 12, 13, 14.

Free exhibition tours will also take place on Thursday, January 6 — an 11 a.m. tour of the Discover Maryland exhibition, and a 1 p.m. tour of The Unfinished Revolution: Maryland in the Wars for Independence. Each tour is limited to 20 slots and will be first come, first served, with no prior registration.

MCHC is a proud member of Museums for All and Blue Star Museums free-admission programs. Free admission is applicable for the Museum ONLY and must be redeemed in person. Visit the program websites for more information about benefits and qualifications for each. Note: The Blue Star Museums program runs from Armed Forces Day in May through Labor Day each year.
