U.S. House of Representatives Armchair
Description
One of two armchairs made in New York for Congress in 1857. They were used by members of the House from 1857-1873. These chairs were witnesses to not only the buildup to the Civil War, but present during the votes on the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments, and some of the subsequent Civil Rights Acts and Legislation as well.
