Barnum’s City Hotel on Monument Square
Description
Barnum's City Hotel located at the southwest corner of Fayette Street and Calvert Street in Baltimore, Maryland, with horse car and omnibuses visible on street. The hotel was built in 1825 by Daniel Barnum and was noted for its opulence and luxury. Many well-known people stayed at Barnum's, including President John Quincy Adams in 1827, author Charles Dickens in 1842, and President Andrew Johnson in 1867. The hotel was torn down in 1890 to make way for the Equitable Building.
