Football Helmet
Description
Early padded leather football helmet comprised of a leather ring with four square padded flaps attaching to a central pad at the crown of the head. Ear covers of padded leather are attached underneath the ring with a strap on right ear cover to latch under the chin to the other ear. Robert E. Lee Hall, Jr. (1885-1905), a football player for Baltimore City College, wore this helmet along with a jersey, padded pants, and shin guards to protect himself from injury while he played for his school team.
