Barnum’s City Hotel

Description

A color print depicting Barnum's City Hotel. The foundation for the hotel was laid in 1825 at the southwest corner of Fayette and Calvert Streets in Baltimore, Maryland. The hotel operated until owner David Barnum's death in 1844, and was torn down around 1890 to allow construction of the Equitable building. Notable guests of the hotel included President John Quincy Adams, who visited in 1827, and Charles Dickens, who was a guest in 1842.
