Beaver Dam Quarry

Description

A view of Beaver Dam Quarry in Cockeysville, Maryland. The quarry was mined during the 19th and early 20th centuries for its dolomitic marble, known to geologists as "Cockeysville Marble." The marble was used in constructing both the Washington Monument in Baltimore as well as the one on the national mall in Washington, D.C. Beaver Dam Quarry was flooded in 1934 and became a swimming hole.
