This Bowie knife with wooden handle and brass guard is stored in a brass and leather sheath. It was owned and carried by Colonel Harry Gilmor (1838-1883), a confederate cavalry officer during the Civil War. Arrested at the beginning of the war following activities in the Pratt Street Riots, Gilmor became one of the most revered cavalry officers of the war.
