Chair

Description

Red federal armchair that includes mahogany, poplar, and oak. John Shaw (1745-1829), a prominent Annapolis cabinet maker, made this chair and most of the furniture for both legislative chambers in the Maryland State House. Marylander Robert Welch (1782-1867) purchased this chair and six others from the office when the Governor's office was refurnished in 1838.
