Description

Linen Maryland state flag with metal grommets, c. 1904-1930. It was owned by Marylander Evelyn Fine Brotman (Mrs. Isidore Brotman) (1914-1986). Officially adopted by the state of Maryland in 1904, it combines the black and gold banner of George Calvert, 1st Baron of Baltimore (1580-1632) and Maryland Secretary of State (1618-1625), and the red and white Crossland arms.
