Francis West Alricks

Description

Oil on canvas portrait painting of "Francis West Alricks" (1798-1871), ca. 1850-1860, by an unattributed American artist. Francis was the son of Baltimore merchant Hermanus Alricks (1764-1840) and Jane Parke Alricks (1772-1844). Like his father, he worked as a Baltimore merchant, was on the Board of Directors and a major stockholder of the Western Bank of Baltimore, was on the Board of Directors of the Baltimore Fire Insurance Company, and in 1860, was elected to represent the 9th and 10th Wards on the Baltimore City Council. He married Mary Elizabeth McElderry Alricks (1817-1895) and they had one daughter. Francis is buried in Green Mount Cemetery, Baltimore, Maryland.
