Gwynn Oak Amusement Park protestors riding ‘Freedom Now’ bus

Description

Young people in a school bus marked "Freedom Now" during a protest at the Gwynn Oak Amusement Park in Baltimore County, Maryland, on July 4, 1963. Civil rights demonstrators and activists from Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Baltimore City, joined together to protest the park's segregation policies and refusal to admit African Americans. Protests related to integration had been occurring at the park for almost a decade when the policy was finally changed to admit African American visitors on August 28, 1963, about two months after this particular protest.
