Portrait of an unknown Baxley woman

Description

Daguerreotype portrait of an unknown Baxley woman, possibly Mary Ann Nesbitt Rolston (1820-1860), first wife of Jackson Brown Baxley (1814- 1896), founder of the Maryland College of Pharmacy. Mary Ann and Jackson were parents to: George William (1851-1869), Emily Rolston (1852-1941), and Jackson Brown Jr. (1856-1891). Mary Ann Nesbit Rolston Baxley died in 1860, around age 40.

Notes

The portrait was originally identified as Ann Hyne Minifie Baxley; however, it is more likely that this daguerreotype is of Mary Ann Nesbitt, Jackson Brown Baxley's first wife. His second wife was Gertrude Hyne Minifie, and there is no one in her family named Ann.
