Portrait of Colonel John Tilghman

Description

Daguerreotype portrait of Colonel John Tilghman (1785-1850), a landowner from Queen Anne's County, Maryland. Tilghman was the son of Judge James Tilghman (1749-1809), and his wife Elizabeth Johns. Tilghman's first wife was Anna Catherine "Kitty" Tilghman (1787-1815), daughter of Richard Tilghman. Their children were: Mary Elizabeth (1808-1833); Ann Catherine (1811-1876); and John Henry (1815-1854). In 1818, Col. Tilghman married his second wife, Ann Tilghman (1785-1840), who was a cousin of his first wife. Their children were: James (1820-); Matthew Ward (1820-1869); and Lloyd (1821-1876).
