Portrait of Elizabeth Tench Tilghman Goldsborough

Description

Daguerreotype portrait of Elizabeth Tench Tilghman Goldsborough (1786-1852), daughter of Col. Tench Tilghman (1744-1786) and Anna Maria Tilghman (1755-1843). Her father had been a Revolutionary War Continental Army Officer, serving as the aide-de-camp to General George Washington. In 1811, she married Col. Nicholas Goldsborough (1787-1857). Their children were: Matthew Tilghman (1812-1861), married Eleanor Sarah Tilghman; James Nicholas (1814-1871), married first Mary Emmett and second Emily Johnston; Ann Margaretta (1816-1878), married Henry Hollyday; William Tench (1818-1838); Anna Maria (1820-1880), married William Bedingfield Smythe; Edmund (1822-1824); Richard Henry (1824-1843); Sarah (1827-1870); Nicholas (1829-1891), married Lavinia Turner; Clara Elizabeth (1831-1911), married John Charles Earle; and Mary Henrietta (1834-1907).
