Portrait of George R. Roberts

Description

Albumen silver print portrait of George R. Roberts (circa 1766-1861), a native of the Canton neighborhood in Baltimore, Maryland. Roberts was counted among the "Old Defenders" of Baltimore and served as a gunner aboard Captain Thomas Boyle's Chasseur, dubbed the "Pride of Baltimore" during the War of 1812. The photograph was taken by Baltimore photographers Daniel Bendann (-1914) and David Bendann (-1915) who were active from 1859-1874.
