Sampler

Description

This is a cotton sampler featuring the “Baltimore Hospital," which was established in 1797 in Catonsville, Maryland. Opened in 1797, it is the second-oldest psychiatric hospital in the United States. The building featured in this sampler was completed around 1800 and was demolished for a new facility between 1853 and 1872. Today, the site is occupied by a public health school operated by Johns Hopkins University.
