Sword

Description

Confederate officer's saber with blued steel blade, etching, brass scabbard, and mother-of-pearl hilt. This pre-Civil War example was owned by James Edmonson Steuart (1871-1954), a grandson of Maryland militia commander and confederate General George Hume Steuart (1790-1867), and a major collector of Civil War relics. While the exact owner is unknown, this type of sword would have been repurposed by confederate officers during the Civil War.
