The Lexington of 1861
Description
Lithographic print captioned, "The Massachusetts Volunteers fighting their way through the Streets of Baltimore, on their march to the defence of the National Capitol April 19th, 1861. Hurrah for the Glorious 6th." The event came to be known as the Baltimore riot of 1961, and it resulted in the first casualties by hostile action of the American Civil War. The print depicts a large group of men with guns and bayonets fighting against a handful of men wielding bricks and clubs.
