The term “arabber” is unique to Baltimore and these sellers have operated in the city since the early 19th century. Recognized as a primarily African American folk tradition by the Arabber Preservation Society, arabbers continue to serve a practical purpose by bringing fruits and vegetables to neighborhoods that are underserved by grocery stores.
