Watch, Pocket

Description

Gold pocket watch, bordered with pearls, featuring a long jeweled train with blue enamelwork. The reverse side features a color illustration of two women and two children on a translucent cobalt background. This ornate watch would have only been available to the wealthiest individuals in the late-18th century. This one belonged to Charles Carroll of Carrollton (1737-1832), perhaps the wealthiest and most influential Marylander of his time, and the last living signer of the Declaration of Independence.
